Whereas, the citizens in the mental health community in Louisiana have been severely afflicted by natural disasters and an inadequate government response, and
Whereas, citizens with a mental health need in Louisiana are fully justified in charging the necessity of assistance from their state government, and
Whereas, the Louisiana State Legislature is currently proposing implementing severe budget cuts to the mental health community, and
Whereas, severe cuts to the budget affecting the mental health community would impede upon the efforts to build and maintain safer, stronger and productive communities, and
Whereas, the community is essential to fulfilling the needs of people with common beliefs, resources, preferences, traditions, etc.
Therefore, we strongly urge the citizens of Louisiana to sign this petition and become part of the effort to urge the Louisiana state legislature to reduce its budget cutting efforts.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Louisiana State Legislature and the members of the House Appropriations Committee and all sub-committees charged with the task of approving budget cuts to the mental health community, to bear in mind the severe long and short term effects that would result in budget cuts and dramatically reduce the passage of such said cuts to the budget.
