Find deadbeats in contempt. Family Responsibility Office enforcement actions are sadly very weak.

"Children have the right to financial support from both of their parents. If you and the other parent do not live together, you must share the costs of caring for your children." - Canadian government

It's a crime. Straight up.

Parents have been getting away with refusing to financially support THEIR children for far too long. While the primary parent have struggled to take care of their children. Some even having to resort to financial assistance. Which leaves the deadbeat to only have to support themselves.

Family Responsibility Office's website states:
"The FRO has many files. Because the office is so busy, you may have to wait several months after you file the order before you will start to receive child support money"
Flat out... unacceptable.
Family Responsibility Office has quote, told me:
"He only owes about $4,000 (since July 2013) that amount is not enough for us to take enforcement actions".
Seriously?
$4,000 may not be a lot of money to someone who is employed by service Canada. However $4,000 will provide my children with food. Something we struggle with on a weekly basis.

I live in Belleville. He lives in Bowmanville. Our court order states we meet in Port Hope three weekends a month for drop off. I was found in contempt of court for being unable to afford the gas money to drive to Port Hope? In a judges eyes all they cared about was the fact that I was not abiding by the "court order". Our "court order" also states the father is to pay $474.00 every month. He doesn't. And yet he can not be held in contempt for not abiding by the "order"? Nor does FRO care. Clearly.

I feel, as well as other struggling parents I'm sure, ANYONE who does not pay support (following the "court order") should be found in contempt of court.
