Representatives Carl Ford NC House District 76 and Larry Pittman NC House District 82 have prepared a bill which would gradually institute voting districts for commission seats. One version of the draft bill adds two more seats to the board making a total of seven seats. In that instance, the county would be split into six districts with one at-large seat.
The impetus for this comes from both representatives hearing from constituents who have told them they feel underrepresented by the current board. There needs to be more of an opportunity for broad representation across the county. Districts would divide the county up equally and provide a voice for those who have previously been either completely ignored or under represented.
We, the undersigned, call upon Representatives Pittman and Ford to complete a bill providing for the increase in the number of seats on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners to seven and to provide for setting up Districts across Cabarrus County and have this bill introduced into the 2015 Legislative Session by April 1, 2015.
