TOB has unveiled an ambitious plan for the redevelopment of the park, however the only missing element was a community pool. Town officials have said that a new pool would cost $27 million to build and millions more to maintain.
We propose an alternative and a much more budget friendly idea, an enlarged, enclosed Spray Park. Our community families and children need a larger, more open, safe and nearby place to cool off where children can play for hours while adults can simply relax and observe from the sidelines, or can even join in on the fun. A place for parents as well as children. A blend of a waterpark and a playground. Small slides, sprinklers and buckets of water is what kids want! Providing an enclosed area promotes a safe and controlled environment.
Spray parks are designed for all ages and are readily usable for persons with disabilities. They offer cost effective, safe, fun additions to public play areas providing a community and neighborhood a desirable place to live and visit. These Spray Parks in addition to providing a place for parents and children to interact and create social capital they are also very aesthetically appealing even when the water is off.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor has said their proposal is "Not a done deal" and is still subject to further community discussions and a final nod by the Town Board. It is up to this community to show our strong desire for this addition to the park. When residents were asked if they would be willing to pay a season pass or offer a daily fee to non residents for the use of the spray park, they emphatically said yes! Lets give the kids what they really want and need!
Lets stop driving to other towns for their Spray Parks! Lets have our very own Spray Park right here in our own neighborhood! " Your Voice Counts" Let it be heard!
We, the undersigned, call on the Town of Oyster Bay to support and approve the proposed plan to build and include an enlarged, enclosed Spray Park at Ellsworth W. Allen Town Park.
