The Social Security Administration has recently stopped allowing Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) to travel to local district areas to hold Social Security related hearings for consumers who live a significant distance away from their regional Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR).
Many claimants who are unable to work due to a disabling condition are physically and/or financially unable to travel to their regional ODAR to attend their hearing which can be very critical to them getting approved for the benefits they need to economically survive.
We feel that this policy change is discriminatory against people with mobility and transportation issues due to disabilities and/or low income.
We, the undersigned, call on you to eliminate the travel burden for Social Security claimants.
We ask that you please help enact a policy that would provide Social Security claimants the right to have their hearings scheduled in the community of their closest District Office.
