The Purpose: To request that Dropbox restore our cherished Mailbox Program and let the community manage it. Mailbox application users loved using this independent email alternative for iOS instead of using the incorporated email app.
The Issue: More than two and a half years ago, Dropbox invested in and purchased Mailbox for over $100 million and then they created an iOS variation about a year after where it lived in permanent beta.
Many of Mailbox users relied on the Mailbox app to handle our e-mails for OS X and iOS and now our cherished program is gone! We were willing to put up with all the bugs and issues, and the fact that there was practically no support because we had no other reputable choice.
Additionally, Mailbox’s users had invested in the application with the anticipation of receiving continued support, something that clearly did not happen. Regrettably, in February of this year, Mailbox was closed and any remaining data was deleted.
The Alternative: If the Mailbox community places intense pressure on Dropbox, we may be able to get them to reinstate the Mailbox application and open-source it. Let us adopt and manage one of our favorite apps!
