Do you have seizures? Chances are if you have this debilitating illness you are struggling to live alone. Many of you have frontal lobe damage or Organic brain syndrome. You most likely are on a long wait list for respite care. You are denied at least once before being accepted for ODSP.
You most likely need 24 hour respite care or at the very least Home care. You probably rely on friends and families for drives to appointments. Some medication cost a substantial amount of dollars you do not have, Your memory is disabled and your missing valuable appointments and not taking medication. Cooking is always a high risk for burns or fires. You have continuous falls that lead to broken bones. Your most likely depressed and feeling alone. Also many will loose jobs because of the high risk of injuries.
Seizures can happen at any time and cause several to be completely dependant on family. This means that they are losing jobs and homes so caring can be a possibility. It is a very demanding responsibility that no one person should be left to battle with alone. Many of us know and understand that our health care system denies many for care and if you are accepted places like Pathways to Independence, Robin Easy Center, Vista or home care can lead to long wait list.

We the patients and Caregivers are encouraging you to understand our urgent need for change. Many of our loved ones are leaving hospitals with out any resources that will provide safe living. Many patients with seizures are forced to rely heavily on family members. Caregivers are forced to care for loved ones once they are sent home. Hospitals are allowing patients to leave on their own terms with the knowledge of knowing they cannot care for themselves because of a brain injuries.
We believe many are dying at home based on their poor decision that they can care for themselves. We believe their mental health state should be taken into consideration before releasing them from hospital care.
This causes many families to feel obligated and change their entire life based on caring. We understand many may believe that families should stay home and care however it must be understood that their quality of life and the caregivers become very poor and this leads to many health risks for caregivers.
If you believe hospitals should provide patients with seizures respite care or home care to secure their safety before leaving hospitals please sign this petition. At this time their are no standard procedures or regulations during their discharge. This means they can just leave a hospital with out concern for their own safety. Families are forced to step up.
I have survived from a stroke and bleed on the brain, I still have ongoing concerns of clotting and lupus activity. My daughter resides in Pathway independence but only for 2 months and in only one more month I will be forced to become her caregiver once more. Their are many like myself who cannot walk away and understand the serious risk of leaving a loved one with seizures alone.
Please help support caregivers and understand seizure patients in many cases suffer from challenging brain damage and do not understand their limits to care for themselves, It is time we take a stand and protect them.
Caregivers are provided with power of care if they inquire
Caregivers are given the option to care
Patients are never given the choice to leave unless respite care or home care is available

Regulation Guidelines must be available and protocol followed.
