For over 40 years there has only been one option for phone service in Arab, AL, and subsequently Internet in later years. This is due to the fact that one man founded a company to install and maintain phone lines in the area. His was the only phone service because he has ownership of the lines and would not allow any other Phone Service access to the lines. He sold the company to a smaller servicer and still they are the only provider allowed to use the lines.

Customers are forced to pay for services that they do not want in order to use certain other services. This has gone on long enough!

We, the undersigned disgruntled residents of Arab, AL, call on Senators, Representatives, and the Governor to dismantle this monopoly.

We are forced to have and pay for unwanted services just to have other services from Otelco. If someone is unfortunate enough to live near the end of the phone line, the phone service is spotty and the DSL High-Speed Internet is slower than dial-up service.

Trying to work from home, depending on the phone service for an important call to the office, or uploading/downloading important documents, is impossible.

Granted, things are probably not that bad in the heart of town, but why should we be punished for not living directly in town. We just want choices for our Phone/Internet Provider.
