A young girl, Joy Odama was allegedly murdered in the guest house of a well connected Abuja businessman in December 2016 and 9 months later, the suspect is still walking around Abuja totally at liberty and with the authorities apparently doing nothing. Several well meaning people including journalists have written about this case and it appears the authorities, specifically the notoriously corrupt Nigerian Police are protecting the suspect from prosecution.
The executive governor of Cross Rivers State, Prof Ayade, has done the right thing by championing the cause of justice in this matter by bringing the full weight of his office to bear on the case and ensure that it is not swept under the carpet as it is the case in most matters where the rich and powerful in Nigeria are concerned.
It is time that other leaders in Nigeria rise up and speak with a clear moral voice to condemn injustice and not turn away from speaking the truth when a fellow member of the elite is concerned.
The Odama family must not only be given justice for the senseless murder of their daughter but must be well compensated for their loss, knowing full well that no amount of money would bring back their cherished daughter.

We the undersigned urge the Attorney General of the Federation to immediately act on the report submitted by the police and recommend a successful prosecution of the suspect without any further delay. The Federal Government should also agree to fund the civil action of the Odama family to recover compensation from the suspect on his successful conviction.
