The University of Rwanda became operational in the academic year 2013/14. It's a merger of 7 public institutions that were operating in Rwanda namely, National University of Rwanda, Kigali Institute of Science and Technology, School of Finance and Banking, Umutara Polytechnic University, Higher Institute of Agriculture and animal husbandry, Kigali Health Institute and Kigali Institute of Education.
All the above institutions had different academic regulations that students delivered upon. Since UR, the rules have changed 3 times in about 13 months.
The problem is, Section X of new academic regulations of October 2014 provides to consider the last 6 semesters (From 2nd to 4th year) and if you ever scored below 65% and 60% in any module you can't get a First class or Second class Upper respectively.
This is unfair to 2015 finalists that University of Rwanda found in 3rd year because our 2nd year is a past event that was subjected to different rules.
We, the Undersigned, Urge the University of Rwanda to be fair and just to the finalists as regards this new grading system. Considering our 2nd year mark from a different system into a new system is victimizing.
Academic quality is extremely important but cannot be done in one academic year hence no need to victimize a single promotion due to legal instability.
