Lady Evelyn Alternative School is attended by children in Junior Kindergarten to Grade six. Many of these young children walk to school and are required to cross at the busy intersection of Main Street and Evelyn Avenue.
This heavy traffic intersection includes city buses, school buses, construction vehicles and many cars turning left. Parents witness dangerous driving that put our children at risk on a daily basis at this intersection.
Unlike other schools in the neighborhood, this school has no crossing guards.
Furthermore, the construction on Main Street has made crossing the street even more dangerous.
As a taxpayer and community member, I request that a crossing guard be place at Main Street and Evelyn Avenue to increase child safety and encourage children to walk to school.
