THE PROBLEM
The street layout of the Dufferin Hill Estate development includes a downhill street (Vanguard Road) leading directly to Forest Run Public School at a T-junction with Forest Run Blvd. Many children living in the Central-East section of the Estate, often unaccompanied by parents, go to school via Vanguard. There is no STOP sign on Forest Run at Vanguard, and, at the peak busy periods of 8:10 to 8:30 and 15:00 to 15:30, there is significant traffic flow on Forest Run between Ten Oaks Blvd and Dufferin Hill Road. This created a dangerous situation for the safety of our children. In recognition of this, a crossing guard was assigned during the first two years of the school's existence. The guard has now been removed, as has the 'Children Crossing' signs and the pedestrian crossing road marking.

THE DANGER
We are concerned that, in the absence of the crossing guard, children will be hurt while crossing at the T-junction. There have already been 2 incidents reported to Principal Rick Cunningham, in which cars have come very close to hitting children. There are undoubtedly many more unreported incidents. Something has to be done to reduce the risk of injury, before bad weather conditions increase the danger.

THE SOLUTION

Return the crossing guard and the associated street signs and road markings.

FAILED ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM

We have tried to resolve this issue, on two occasions, by contacting to our Council Representative, Sandra Racco. She has failed to provide any solution.

On behalf of the parents of children attending Forest Run Public School who live in the affected area, we request prompt action to resolve this dangerous situation before any child is hurt.
