Create Seperate Showmanship Class for Dairy and Exotic Goats at Preble County Fair

The purpose of this petition is to propose a change to the present method of showing caprine (specifically goat) animals at the Preble County Fair and present a different option to both the Junior and Senior Fair Board's of Preble County.

At present the meat, dairy, and exotic breeds are all shown together in a single showmanship competition which is divided by age. Each of these breeds then get a separate show dedicated to their specific purpose.

We are proposing that the Dairy and Exotic breeds of goats are given their own showmanship, separate from the meat goat showmanship. Some of the reasons are as follows:

1: Dairy and Exotic breeds are kept year round and have a much longer time to get to know their handler and often are used on a continuous basis as a showmanship goat every year versus the meat goats are often a project that is kept only part of the year and the animals involved cannot be used year after year.

2: The breeds are show very differently in each respect according to the rule books of the American Dairy Goat Association, the American Boar Goat Association, and the National Pygmy Goat Association.

3: Dividing the shows would eliminate the need for finding a judge that was proficient at all types of showing. Because each showman is showing according their own rule book, finding a judge that can evaluate both the handlers and animals in accordance with their set of rules is a very difficult task which would be unnecessary when the shows are separated.

4: Other fairs and counties have the classes separated according to type of goat, going down to dairy, meat, and even exotic each having their own divided showmanship. Here are a few links to different websites and documents giving examples of that fact:
