Stop excessive claims and benefits of Councillors

For many years now as tax payers we have had to pay towards wages and expenses for councillors. It's not only councillors that we are paying for either, we also have chauffeurs who are seen driving around to functions here and there in a very comfortable swanky car that we probably paid for.

Once at their function the chauffeur is sat outside reading his paper, killing time until he is summoned take him home or on to another function. How much is this costing Tax Payers? How much is the chauffer being paid to sit around reading. Going back to Councillors they should look back to the days when being a Councillor meant they had status and could be called upon to make a difference to the community and Tameside as a whole.

These days all they seem to be interested in is what they can claim. There is very little evidence to suggest a good days work for a well earned wage. Once upon a time Councillors stuck up for their communities and did it not for the money but the satisfaction that they had made a difference. I am appalled at the suggestion in the Advertiser that there should be 19 Wards in Tameside with 3 Councillors per ward. So that equates to 57 Councillors x 57 wages x 57 expenses and not forgetting the 57 iPads that we are told Councillors will be gettin. Do the Maths and get rid of 3/4 of them.

No wonder there are so many articles in the Advertiser each week asking if and when something is going to be done. It's a disgrace and an insult to those hard working citizens of Tameside and to the true caring Councillors of the past.
