Condemn Houses Located at 1372 and 1374 F St NE

We, the undersigned, petition the supervisors of The District of Columbia to condemn and have removed the houses located at 1372 and 1374 F Street, NE in the city of Washington, DC.

The owners are collecting an increasing amount of junk in their back yards in order to run a junking business out of their residence. In order to facilitate the business, the owners have obtained a residential parking permit for their UHaul truck, which is used primarily for commercial purposes and remains parked on the street, taking up multiple spaces on an already busy street.

These owners are not only a nuisance, their properties are a hazard. The houses have been deteriorating for years and now have windows that don't close, exposed wiring, and plywood siding that is rotting away, some of which has recently fallen off into a neighbor's property. The properties and the junk on their properties also attract rodents; rats which have made their way into the walls and ceilings of their neighbors properties and raccoons that have forced neighbors to keep their pets indoors. Additionally, and most troubling is that much of the junk that is on their property is highly flammable and improperly stored.

Aside from the dangerous conditions, the houses hurt property values in the neighborhood. Many in the neighborhood have done improvements to their homes, only to learn that the property value has to be decreased because of these houses. The tax value, however, remains the same on these properties. This devaluation is not fair to the rest of the individuals that live in this neighborhood.
