Joe Goodman coached at the high school level for 33 years, 29 of which was at Seymour High School. Coach Goodman has a combined record of 202 wins and 132 losses overall and 189 wins and 127 losses while at Seymour High School as coach of the Owls.
Coach Goodman’s win total during his tenure at Seymour surpassed the programs win total in the 51 years prior to his coming to Seymour. Among the many successes while head coach of the Owls was winning the semi-state in 1991 and advancing to the state finals that year. Seymour won sectionals in 1991, 97, 99, and 2001, while winning regionals in 1991 and 1999.
Coach Goodman is in the Indiana Football Hall of Fame and past president of the Indiana Football Coaches Association having served in many positions within the IFCA earning statewide respect for himself personally as well as representing Seymour High School in a most favorable manner.
Over the years countless players and students have benefited from his personal involvement in building character and positive attributes that have impacted lives immeasurably.
Joe Goodman continues to support Seymour High School athletics and is an active member of the community and his church.
Whereas Coach Joe Goodman has exhibited extraordinary leadership and accomplishments over his career as a coach and educator benefiting the City of Seymour as a community, Seymour High School as an institution excelling in athletics and academics, and has impacted the personal development of countless students and players over his 33 years of coaching, WE THE UNDERSIGNED would ask the Seymour Community Schools Board of Directors enter and approve a motion for the football facility be known as “Joe Goodman Field at Bulleit Stadium”.
We wish to continue honoring those who have served Seymour Community Schools in the past while allowing recognition of a most deserving honoree, Coach Joe Goodman.
