I want to start a petition to close down the #Bekezela slum (Joburg, South Africa) which is just undr the Pretoria North Freeway off-ramp to Fordsburg (Carr Street)..
It is a nest for criminals who also have dangerous weapons... I am a recent crime victim.. this area is a threat for the Newtown precinct development which houses the Market Theatre, Scibono Discovery Centre, Newtown Junction Mall inter alia... #MarketTheatre #NewtownJunction...
This settlement is situated under the bridge, and poses a huge crime threat to even tourists...
We, the undersigned, call for the City Of Joburg to close the inner city informal settlement of Bekezela, which has become a crime nest.. This crime is now affecting major Joburg tourist destinations like the Scibono science discovery center, The Market Theatre, M Fitzgerald Square...
We also request the City to post 24 hour security watchmen in joburg street corners (which all need to be fully-lit) and patrolled... This is a major requirement for a #WorldClassCity.
