Currently it is an offence to move characters from one block to another but this is the only regulation within DVLA laws that makes no logical sense.
We strongly feel that the Government should modify the regulations/limits set by the DVLA on number plate character spacing. Technically speaking, the spacing of number plate characters does not affect the registering by speed cameras and other plate recognition hardware.
It is only the sizing and type of the font used that affects this detection software and the regulations limited on these areas are justified and very fair.
We therefore feel that the spacing limit should be set at a minimum 11mm between characters, 33mm between groups and most importantly the group space may be positioned at any point on the plate within. e.g. AB53 ABC -> AB5 3ABC or A123 ABC -> A1 23ABC
We, the undersigned, call on the DVLA to allow characters to be moved from one block to another block on a Cherished Number Plate.
The font size, font type and all other regulations set by DVLA should remain exactly as they currently stand which are all logical and fair.
