Despite the 1997 election of President Khatami, widely perceived as a moderate who would ease restrictions on women, his limited political power is being overridden by more conservative authorities in the regime who continue to limit women's freedom in all areas of life - dress, marriage, education, divorce, occupation and health.

However, pressure from national and international women's groups has in the past been demonstrated to be successful in pressuring the government to reverse some restrictive policies.

Please stand for Human Rights in Iran. Don't let the extremists be accepted and legitimized as the representatives of the Iranian people. A terrorist regime must be recognized as a terrorist regime and nothing more.

I call For the overthrow of the Islamic Republic of Iran, separation of religion from the state, an end to sexual apartheid, and freedom, equality, and universal rights for women in Iran now.
