Mike Ruzek said it best; the biggest winner of Friday night’s (7/13) Park City Institute concert in City Park was... Park City!!! Moreover, City Park should be home for all of these events.

From the moment the opening band, Pixie and the Partygrass Boys, took the stage, there was a palpable magic in the air, one that grew through headliner Grace Potter's electric set and threaded its way from the front rows of adults dancing and playing musical chairs to those lounging on blankets on the lawn to the people lined up to watch for free from Poison Creek Trail. Because it was so easy for concertgoers to walk, bike or bus to the venue, the impact to traffic was almost nonexistent. There were no security issues. The fields were left clean and in great shape. And everyone was left elated, energized and wanting more!

In her pre-show remarks, Park City Institute Director Teri Orr told the crowd a concert in City Park probably wouldn’t happen again, “at least not in [her] lifetime.” But why not? We, as a connected, thoughtful and purposeful community, have successfully petitioned City Council to act on other matters we’ve deemed critical in our collective efforts to Keep Park City “Park City.” This seems no different.

If enough of us express support for bringing the Institute’s remaining Summer 2018 concerts back to their original home in City Park, and if PCI is willing to move them and if potential impacts are as successfully mitigated and managed as they have been through the first two St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concerts of this summer, then really... Why wouldn't we make this happen, Park City?!?! Returning the concerts to the park will be tremendous for community connection, social equity, local Park City identity, family friendly fun, transportation and sustainability goals and more!

Our goal is to get enough signatures on this petition to make a meaningful appeal to City Council this Thursday evening. Kindly and immediately add your name and any comments you have. And then PLEASE share with your friends, neighbors, coworkers, staff, fellow volunteers, camp counselors, baby sitters, teachers, police officers, drivers, shop proprietors, restauranteurs, bartenders, grocers, yoga instructors, doctors, lawyers and kids. This is for all of us. And we need to act fast!

We, the undersigned, respectfully ask our Honorable Mayor, City Councilors and Park City Municipal Staff to work with Park City Institute (presuming it is amenable), local agencies and the broader community to bring the PCI/St Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concert series back to its rightful home in City Park for the remainder of Summer 2018.
