Microsoft Encarta was one of the best encyclopedia to use for school. You didn't have to go online to get what you needed, it was ready to use when you needed it. Wikipedia is ok, but you have to be online to use it fully. With the explosion of digital medias in the classrooms and home, Encarta would have been an invaluable resource.

The other day my daughter was doing her history homework and she wanted to research some information, she tried different online resources but she was still confused. I decided to install an old copy of Encarta and she was able to find the answers she needed.

Encarta was especially useful in this instance because she did not have a text book look in; like back when I was in school.

As a parent it gets really frustrating when I see my children come home with pieces of paper that tell them to look on the internet for the answers, i.e. (Youtube), yes, youtube. Is this how we expect our future generation to learn. The old fashion way of learning was used by the greatest minds in our history, now we are getting lazy and refuse to open and read an educational book. Instead we, turn to the internet hoping that what we find will be the correct answer.

What about sitting down and spending a few hours helping our children, and in the process re-educating ourselves in the process.

Encarta was the best digital encyclopedia, and even though it was discontinued in 2009 it is still my go to for information before 2009.

We, the undersigned, call on Microsoft to consider bringing Encarta back in all its glory.
