The beautiful area of Ocho Rios is declining rapidly daily. The tourist industry has taken a battering as cruise ships are diverted to Falmouth. There is nothing drastically wrong with Falmouth as a town but Ocho Rios is the heartland f tourism where everything is close, it is vibrant and much more likely to attract a wider range of tourists.
Tourism is not just about other foreign nationals but the indigenous people who are living abroad and make their homeland their choice of vacation on a regular basis. They spend thousands not just to come but buy local products which is vital to the economy.
We feel sir that you have catered for the minority and the majority who loves the fun and warmth of Ocho Rios have not been considered. Suffice to say other cultures and our Caribbean colleagues are also missing what " Ochi" offered.
Local people have been seriously affected through lack of sales, lovely shops and businesses have "perished. Are you aware of the loss to the economy because this particular tourist area has been killed off? The majority would like "Ochi" back. The area, but in fact the country needs the money. Revamp Ocho Rios please as soon as possible .
We the undersigned call on the Tourism MInister to " Bring Back Ochi". Our once vibrant area wants back our tourism, fun, business, entertainment and community spirit.
Locals are tourists too and whether we are at home or abroad every penny spent is good for the health of the economy.
For those who just want to buy local souvenirs and lie in the sun give them Falmouth but for much more fun in the sun give us our Ochi back.
