The road speed along the B2176, Bidbrough Ridge is too fast, hazardous and unsafe for road users and the Bidborough village community. A Government's road safety paper on 'Tomorrow's roads: safer for everyone'', stated 'a standard speed limit of 30mph in villages should be the norm".

Bidborough Ridge is used by residents, commuters, school parents, unofficial A26 road diversions, farm vehicles, commercial lorries and residents visiting the commercial hub of the village. As most residents live on the south side of the Bidborough Ridge, the road has to be crossed when using the shop, nursery, bus stop, pub and garage. There have been many 'near miss' accidents in the past and we are not willing to wait until a fatal accident occurs to rectify the road safety and speed in our village.

This can be achieved by reducing the road speed to 30mph through the village, introducing 'gateway road markings' to indicate the entrance to Bidborough and placement of appropriate signs to alert drivers to the change of speed and crossing points/hazards.

We the undersigned want a safer environment in the heart of our community.

We want drivers to be aware they are entering into a village, limit their speed accordingly and be alerted to all possible hazards, especially in the centre of Bidborough.
