To be halal, the animal must have its throat slit whilst still alive and conscious (not stunned) to ensure it ‘properly’ bleeds to death.
The Islamic community in Australia is less than 3% and yet the majority of the meat in Australia is slaughtered according to Halal.
We demand that all products that have Halal certification are clearly labelled so that Australians can be aware and choose to purchase or not.
We the undersigned urge the government of Australia to:
(a) Ban halal slaughtering in Australia;
(b) Require that all Halal food products are clearly labelled as such.
