Cluster munitions is a bomb designed to release an abundant of smaller submunitions in a cluster exploding as they hit the surface of its target.
These smaller munitions often times fail to detonate and become what are called “duds”. These duds are no longer munitions they are essentially very sensitive landmines that are in-fact more lethal then conventional landmines.
Cluster munitions kill and maim civilians long after the end of conflict. Many of the victims are innocent children who find and play with the duds.
On 3-4 December of 2008 in Oslo, Norway, 94 nations participated in signing a treaty to immediately ban the production and use of cluster munitions and to fully dismantle their current stock pile within 8 years. The United States subsequently refused to sign the treaty.
By signing this petition I avow to our Federal representatives to pass legislation banning the production of all cluster munitions in the United States and to call on President Obama to sign the Oslo Cluster Bomb Treaty with U.S. Senate confirmation.
