Augusta State University consistently neglects to offer adequate parking for its students, faculty, and staff. On a typical day one has to survey five or six parking lots for roughly thirty minutes before he/she may or may not find a parking space.
Augusta State University seems to condone this "free-for-all", every person out for themselves, approach to finding parking. A simple solution can be offered to address this situation such as assigning parking lots to each representative group of the university (i.e., seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshman, faculty, and staff), limiting enrollment, or creating more parking. Another option would be to allow parking at the Daniel Field Shopping Center or the Athletic Complex and offer a shuttle service.
It seems unreasonable that Augusta State University's Public Safety is writing tickets for students parking on side streets around the university, because Augusta State University does not offer an appropriate place for their students to park. This undue stress and confusion detracts from a positive and peaceful learning environment in which Augusta State University should focus on fostering.
I have personally gone to the Office of the President, Dr. William A. Bloodworth Jr. to explain how the parking situation is causing students to be late and miss their classes. Dr. Bloodworth's office has failed to appropriately address these issues through an honest civil plea by students to help them with this problem.
Therefore, I am asking all those who have recognized Augusta State University's parking mayhem to sign this petition.
We, the undersigned, call on the President of Augusta State University Dr. William A. Bloodworth Jr., and the Board of Regents, to take immediate action to develop a parking plan that allows every student, faculty, and staff member to find a parking space in a reasonable, orderly, and timely manner.
Furthermore we respectfully and fairly request that all parking citations that were given by Augusta State University's Public Safety that were due to this parking situation be hereby remitted, and that all professors are emailed to be lenient in their tardiness policies until this parking situation is handled appropriately.
