Category: Education
Region: Australia
Target: The Honourable President & Members of the Senate in Parliament
Background (Preamble):
-The Australian Technical College has been a highly successful model of education for student who wish to learn a trade and complete their Tasmanian Certificate of Education;

-The Rudd Government has broken its election promise not to close any existing Australian Technical Colleges;

-Tasmanian Industry has offered to take over and operate the ATC and this alternative to date has been rejected.

- 35 ATCNT staff have been given notice that their employment will be terminated on 31 December 2009.

- The options that are being offered to students for 2010 by the Tasmanian Government are in no way comparable to current courses offered by the ATC and further place at risk the education and employment prospects for the current 270 enrolled students and future students;

-The Federal Government, over several years has invested over $26 million on the establishment and operation of the ATC in Tasmania, including $14 million on the building of the Launceston and Burnie facilities.
Petition:
We, the undersigned petitioners, call on the Rudd Labor Government to support the ongoing operation of the Australian Technical College in Tasmania.
