The current student in the CCBC Air Traffic Control program is required to complete and receive a Private Pilots license in 4 semesters.

To receive a Private Pilot license flight time is required to a minimum of 45 hours, which can become a financial setback to those who seek out this college for its student active control tower and direct hiring process.

Students feel this requirement needs to be revised to a lower quantity. Many of the students in the Air Traffic program cannot fulfill the requirement in time for graduation due to weather restrictions, severe lack of flight instructors, and the recent prioritization of Professional Pilot Majors and CFI Certifications.

Members of the Professional Pilot program feel that if the Air Traffic Control requirement was reduced to only fly between 10 and 15 hours this would free up flight time to an already over booked schedule.

Many CTI schools around the country do not have a requirement of a Private Pilot license but do require a minimum flight time between 8 to 15 hours for Air Traffic Control majors, and most importantly the FAA does not require any Air Traffic Controllers to hold any type of pilot certificate or license.

We, The aviation students of CCBC, ask the Administers to revise the current Private Pilot license to a minimum of 10 to 15 hours.
