During President Yudhoyono’s visit to Australia in March 2010 which was regarded as a diplomatic high point for the Bi-lateral Relationship, in his Address to Parliament:

“the President said Australia and Indonesia were ‘strategic partners' and highlighted four challenges for the ‘solid and strong' bilateral relationship: improving public perceptions of each other; managing increasingly complex relations; moving towards a more opportunity-driven relationship; and addressing new issues such as terrorism, people smuggling, natural disasters, infectious disease, financial crises and climate change.” - Dept of Foreign Affairs and Trade Website

We are concerned that President Yudhoyono's astute observations during his visit, were disregarded by Parliament, and not able to be respected during the recent Live Export debate within the Australian media.
