Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the spine which produces pain and stiffness through adult life. It usually begins in the teens or early twenties and affects more men than women. There are around 200,000 people diagnosed with AS in the UK. It is currently incurable and one third of people with AS are unable to work because of their condition.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, demand that the needs of thousands of people in the UK with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are recognised and the inequalities of healthcare and access to treatment they experience are urgently addressed by the UK health service.
AS has a huge impact on the individual and their family and on society but it is a forgotten and overlooked condition. It is time for this to change.
