Amend the IL Vehicle Code is a statewide grassroots, advocacy group, comprised of men and women who have a strong belief in the concepts of rehabilitation and redemption.
Those with whom we identify and on whose behalf we advocate are rehabilitated alcoholics, with revoked IL driver's licenses. Active in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous, many have been abstinent for three or more years and none have been convicted in IL or in any other state of: Aggravated DUI or of fleeing the scene of an alcohol related vehicle accident that resulted in property damage, bodily injury or death. But because of their revoked driver's licenses, under current IL DUI statutes, these people are ineligible for any form of driving relief. Not even with an alcohol monitoring device!
It makes no sense, economic or otherwise, to continue to punish people, who are no longer a threat to public safety on our roads and highways.
We, the undersigned, registered voters of IL urge members of the IL General Assembly to amend the IL vehicle code and related state DUI statutes, to provide some form of driving relief for rehabilitated alcoholics.
