Under the Memorandum of Understanding Article 44 Section 6 DHS Nurses have the right to elect a change in work schedules. The Registered Nursing staff on 36 hour 9/10 shifts in the Definitive Observation unit at Rancho Los Amigos would like to evoke this right and petition for a vote of schedule change.
The Registered Nursing staff on the 36-hour 9/10 shifts would like to vote to start working 2 (12) hour shifts and 1(8) hour shift per week. This change would create a better staffing ratio for nigh shifts, which would better the continuity of patient care. In addition, the change of schedule will give the nurses on the 36 hour shift their full entitled benefits, which will create less burn out for the Registered Nurses and again add to the continuity of patient care.
The Registered Nurses not on the 12-hour shift support their fellow nurses in the decision to elect change in work schedules and if the option is available it can be resented to them.
We, the Registered Nurses on 36 hour 9/10 shift, call on their fellow co-workers and on DOU management to help facilitate this request in schedules to ensure better continuity of patient care and to limit the burn out that these nurses face.
