As part of its efforts to provide Bank Street in the Glebe with some small elements of nature, Bloomfields Flowers, located at 789 Bank Street (west side of Bank Street between Second and Third Avenue), has been placing flowers petals in front of its shop.

The flower petals are fresh, colourful, and swept up regularly and replaced by new ones. The petals chosen are typically rose petals, usually red.

On Tuesday, March 20th, Bloomfields received a by-law order from the City of Ottawa to cease placing flower petals on the sidewalk, citing the by-law pertaining to Use and Care of Roads (http://bit.ly/GGgEsy).

We believe that this small and harmless practice brightens the Glebe streetscape and brings nature to an area that is mostly concrete, and as such, should not be viewed as "debris".

We believe that this by-law has been misapplied.

If you support our small, natural beauty enhancements to the Glebe streetscape, please sign the petition below requesting that an exception to by-law #2003-498 be granted.

We, the undersigned, support the placement of flower petals on the sidewalk in front of Bloomfields Flowers and call on City of Ottawa to make an exception to bylaw #2003-498.
