#Medical Supplies
Target:
Government of Alberta
Region:
Canada

BACKGROUND: The Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) program helps Albertans with a long-term disability, chronic illness or terminal illness to maintain their independence at home, in lodges or group homes by providing financial assistance to buy medical equipment and supplies.

It has been brought to our attention that AADL has a policy that prohibits clients from getting supplies from an approved vendor on the client's authorization date (usually the first of the month every 2 months) because vendors are not able to bill until the authorization date of the 1st of the order date.

Secondly the calendar year for Alberta Aids to Daily Living start on July 1 of each year (Canada Day). All vendors including government are closed for this holiday, which means a client will need to wait until the next business day to receive medical supplies.

We the undersigned citizens of Alberta Canada urge the Government of Alberta, the Health Minister and Alberta Aids to Daily Living Program Executive Director to work with clients and vendors to create and change the policy surrounding distribution of medical supplies to clients so that clients can receive supplies on the first day of the authorization date or earlier when the authorization day falls on a weekend or holiday.

And to change the calendar year beginning from July 1 of each year to a date that doesn’t interfere with a statutory holiday.
