Cigarette butts by the millions are discarded every year on roadways sidewalks and snowbanks that all leads to sewers, rivers, streams and oceans.
Each cigarette butt is fiberglass and takes 70 to 100 years to decompose.
We the undersigned call on the Minister of the Environment to impose a .25 cent deposit on each and every cigarette sold in Canada.
The deposit will be refunded when butts are collected and returned to a recycling facility.
This program will have a dramatic and positive impact in cleaning up our environment.
