捍衛公共廣播 不要陰乾港台
　
記起那一年，政府以檢討香港的公共廣播服務為由，提議另起爐灶，形同殺掉香港電台，港台同事群起反對，大聲疾呼：我們「正在公共廣播」！

記起那一年，我們穿上印著「正在公共廣播」的紅衣，在廣播道遊行，還有一個「撐」字！那是為自己打氣，要緊守崗位，竭力為市民提供優質廣播服務。

記起那一年，我們穿上黑衣，在廣播大樓外鋪上黑地毯，抗議政府空降政務官當廣播處長，我們要守住的是「編輯自主」－這得來不易的傳統。

處身香港傳媒的「冰河時期」，香港電台興建大樓撥款申請突被無故撤回，令公共廣播的未來發展蒙上陰影。我們促請特區政府提交大樓撥款方案予立法會財務委員會審議，希望社會能深入討論香港需要怎樣的「公共廣播」，尤其是在今天香港言論自由岌岌可危之時。

我們也期望一眾港台員工無畏無懼，無論有沒有新大樓，無論身處廣播道抑或將軍澳，都要繼承和發揚公共廣播的核心價值：不偏不倚，做好節目；堅持編輯自主，監察政府。讓我們一起捍衛這片讓我們自由發揮、自由創作、能說真話的空間。

Defend public service broadcasting, don’t “dry up” RTHK.

Remember that year, the government proposed setting up a new public service broadcaster, which effectively meant closing down RTHK. We fought back and chanted “we’re public service broadcasting”!

Remember that year, we wore red t-shirts that said “public service broadcasting” and marched along Broadcast Drive with the word “support”? It helped us to hang in there and made us more determined to provide quality public service broadcasting.

Remember that year, we wore black t-shirts and rolled out a black carpet to welcome the newly appointed Director of Broadcasting, who was an administrative officer. We needed to uphold editorial freedom - something that didn’t come easy.

Hong Kong’s press freedom is at stake. The withdrawal of the funding application for RTHK’s new Broadcasting House will cast a shadow on the future development of public service broadcasting.

We urge the government to re-submit the funding proposal to the Legislative Council’s Finance Committee, so that the community could discuss what kind of “public service broadcasting” the society needs, especially at times like this.

We also expect all RTHK staff to remain fearless at work – whether or not we have the new headquarters, whether or not we’re on Broadcast Drive or Tseung Kwan O - we will still carry on with the core values of public service broadcasting: to be impartial, to produce quality programmes, to uphold
editorial freedom and to monitor the government. Let us defend this piece of land that allows us to create freely and speak from our hearts.
