Target:
Terry McAuliffe, Govenor of Virginia
Region:
United States of America

Richard Hughes Jr, Shannon Hughes and Shawn Hughes were invited to a JMU college party, they were asked to leave and proceeded to their car to do so when they were attacked by a mob of drunken out of control college students. They fought to defend themselves and to flee from being attacked by five to ten JMu students on each of them.

Witnesses stated that there were fights happening all over the place at this party at the same time. Several students ended up with injuries and identified their assailants who were not the Hughes Brothers. The police and courts turned it around on the brothers even though the students couldn't even pick them out of a line up. The students changed their stories after newspaper articles posted pictures of the Hughes Brothers and pinned this on them.

They were convicted of 1 year for an assault by mob and 29 years for 3 malicious wounding by mob charges. Even though their sentencing guidelines were a maximum of 18 years. No other defendant(s) in the past ten years in Harrisonburg/ Rockingham County, Va. courts who have been charged with similar charges or even murder has received such an outrageous stern sentence like the Hughes brothers did.

We the undersigned call on the Governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell to:

1). Provide a conditional pardon and run the Hughes Brothers sentence to run concurrent for 12 years.

2). Or suspend a portion of their sentence like was done with all other cases and to coincide with sentencing guidelines as done in all other case in this jurisdiction.
