Restore Human Rights to the Northern Territory Aboriginal People

We would like to sincerely thank all who added their name to this petition to Navi Pillay, UN Human Rights High Commissioner. These signatures, together with the hard copy signatures totaled just over 6,500. They were presented by Djapirri Mununggirritj to the Commissioner in Darwin on Friday 20th May.
Signatures were collected from every state and Territory and a large percentage were from the NT towns and communities of Darwin, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine , Nhulunbuy, Yirrkala, Galiwin’ku, Milingimbi, Maningrida, Yuendumu, Tiwi Isl., Elcho Isl., Lajamanu, Santa Theresa, Donydji, Mapuru, Mirrngatja, Gapuwiak, Dhamiyaka, Raymangirr, Barrkira, Wadeye, Croker Isl., GanGan, Djarrakpi, Daguragu, Ampilatwatja, Utopia, Bickerton Isl., Ngukurr, Oenpelli, Borlkdjam Outstation, Ramminginning and Marngarr.

We are calling on you to encourage Government to end the Northern Territory Intervention and to restore the rights of Aboriginal people. The people were not consulted before the Intervention nor have they given their consent to it.
Control over land and communities must be returned to Aboriginal people. Changes to the law are urgently needed to restore and protect the rights of Aboriginal peoples in the NT to determine their own futures. We ask you for your assistance.
