Stop the Parker Lights

This summer Parker plans to construct an artificial turf field and stadium lights on their Lincoln Park West frontage. The lighting will be provided by four, 58-ft. high stadium lights. Each lighting post will have two crossbars at the top, equipped with nine lights.

How frequently will the lights go on? Parker has given neighbors a laudably frank estimate of the effect of their lighting plans. We should be prepared, Parker told us, for the possibility that the lights will be turned on for as many as 100 games per year.

Parker has stated the lights would go on as early as 4:30 PM and stay on as late as 9:00. Parker would not rule out turning on the lights for practice sessions as well. Parker would also not rule out leasing the field for use by third parties. The net effect, Parker acknowledges, would be like a light ship landing on Lincoln Park West.
