"Without vision the nation perishes. For the past 40 years politicians have played fast and loose with the vision forged selflessly for us by the Statesmen and women of the struggle for independence, i.e. our constitution. Even if we cared about nothing other than finance the decisions in that limited field will henceforth be made for us by those extending us the enormous loans we seem to require. And amazingly no one in government seems to care much.
There are two people who might be persuaded to get involved one more time - Declan Ganley and Dana Rosemary Scallon. Ganley is strong on international business accumen and Scallon strong on our constitution and the values it enshrines. So I, Brian Flanagan, who live in Buncrana and employ 50 people in making, restoring and retailing furniture, and who have campaigned on issues from slot machines, Itinerants, refugees, to abortion, divorce and employment issues, suggest that these two would make a bloody good start in the direction we need to go. We the undersigned ardently request that Declan Ganly and Dana Rosemary Scallon take the field in the next general election to stand for local government.
As well as being people of proven competence in their own fields of activity they seem to retain both genuine belief in representative democracy as well as great respect for the Irish Constitution.
