A Pakistani court has barred President Asif Ali Zardari from pardoning a Christian woman sentenced to death on charges of insulting Islam, in a case that has prompted criticism over the country's blasphemy law.
Aasia Bibi, a 45-year-old mother of five, requested a pardon from the president after a lower court sentenced her to death on 8 November in a case stemming from a village dispute.

In this case, regardless of the "facts", this lady does not deserve such punishment.
Human rights activists want the controversial legislation repealed, saying it was exploited for personal enmity and encourages extremism.
“The blasphemy law is absolutely obscene and it needs to be repealed in totality,” Human Rights Watch spokesman Ali Dayan Hasan said.
