A growing number of employers are asking potential and already employed employees to sign releases that allow them to access your credit report. This is an invasion of privacy. We all know what racial profiling is, well this is financial profiling.

Your credit score does not indicate whether you are going to be a good choice for a particular job position. None of us can know for certain that unforeseen things like a catastrophic medical condition or the loss of a job might not lead to a low credit score.

These are very uncertain times we are living in economically and we need to revise the law that allows employers to even ask for this information.

We the undersigned call for the Congress of the United States to revise The Fair Credit Reporting Act that allows employers to ask employees and potential employees to sign a release so that the employer can access your credit report.

We are requesting that this be changed and that a law be written which would make obtaining a credit report for employment purposes an unlawful invasion of privacy.
