Lake Ontario is one of the five interconnected Great Lakes, providing most of the drinking water for Canadians, and Americans. Despite its importance, being one of the few bodies of fresh water readily available, it is being misused and severely polluted.

Many are under the misapprehension that the sewage system is well monitored and that Lake Ontario is being used at a healthy and consistent rate. On the contrary, the water systems being utilized are not extremely reliable and are dumping a lot of waste and chemicals into the body of water. In fact, after the industrial revolution, Lake Ontario has gotten filthier and filthier that in the 21st Century, the change can actually be observed by the naked eye.

Lately, people have been fishing out garbage bags as well as toxic chemicals, the CBC even questioning whether or not Lake Ontario was always this polluted. If and increase in pollution continues, or remains at the current level, Lake Ontario will soon become unusable.

So, as the people who are drinking this water, bathing in this water, and using it in our day to day lives, do you want it to be tainted with unknown chemicals, or do you want to be assured that the water you are drinking is safe?

We, whom represent the people, believe that the public should have a say in the quality of their water, and call upon the government to establish laws protecting Lake Ontario from pollution and overuse.
