Ocie Hill was the first African American to be elected to the Mansfield City Council. He served 15 consecutive terms. The Ocie Hill Neighborhood Center was built in the memory of this great man. It serves as after school program for children and provides excellent academic and recreational tools for the children.

It is an extraordinary program for the parents as well, especially those parents who live below the poverty level and can not afford to send their children to other programs. Ocie Hill provides a place for minority children to participate in a positive environment with staff that truly care about the well being and best interest of the kids. It is a historical landmark that has served several generations of Mansfield residents.

It has over 15 programs that are in place to enrich the community, focusing mainly on minorities and those living below the poverty level. Closing this building down would devastate the community.

We, the undersigned, call on the Richland County Board of Elections to provide funding to keep Ocie Hill Neighborhood Center open.
