Petition:
We, independent voters of Nevada, call for the enactment of a Nonpartisan Open Primary system. It’s time to put the power in the hands of the voters, not the political parties.
Under Nonpartisan Open Primaries, all candidates for an office, regardless of party affiliation, appear on one primary ballot, and voters choose the best candidate for each office. The top two vote getters go onto the general election.
Our political environment is polluted by partisanship. It’s time to relegate political parties to their proper location in the electoral process. They are not quasi-governmental entities, they are private organizations, and do not have the right to control the process by which we elect our government; that right belongs to the people.
