In more than nine out of ten childbirths in United States, the cord blood stem cells are discarded as medical waste mainly because parents can not store them for financial reasons.
Given the importance of cord blood banking and how stem cells can be the decisive factor in finding treatment for more than 80 diseases, it is critical that parents benefit from this service regardless of financial constraints they might confront.
We, the undersigned, call on the congress to pass laws to include Cord Blood Banking costs in medicaid to encourage low-income families to store their children's stem cells.
