The train companies are using threatening language and actions about passengers trying to avoid paying correct fares or accidentally not been able to buy one on departure (due to the machine not working or the ticket office not being manned etc.)

At the same time there is nothing supporting the travellers: the ticket machines do not offer the cheapest ticket, you do not get that from the undermanned ticket office either. The rail card has very limited use because of time restrictions and minimum price set so high (currently at £13 from Farnborough).

Even when the train is late and you have bought a full price ticket but the train company fails to provide that service, the conductor never offers to credit your full price ticket and sell you the correct priced one. Public transport is the way forward and it is only fair that the ticketing has to be made so simple and clear that majority of the public feel comfortable using the service.

We the undersigned call on the Rail companies and the Ministry of Transport to agree on a fare system that is understandable, transparent and fairly applied to make the use of public transport pleasant and more user-friendly.

The easiest way is to sell only reserved seats to the frequent morning rush hour passengers and the rest is just one fare. If you travel early without the reserved ticket, you cannot expect a seat.

Single ticket should be half of return which allows people the freedom to return to another station near by. There is no need for that inflexibility applied today.
