WHEREAS, Easton's Pond is in need of repair to improve the water supply infrastructure,
WHEREAS, Easton's Pond is an important natural feature of Newport, as well as an important environmental resource, wetland and habitat,
WHEREAS, the City of Newport is proposing to repair only a portion of the Pond at a cost of $6 million instead of pursuing lower cost alternatives, and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport's proposal uses concrete, steel pilings and fences, in a design that unnecessarily changes the natural environment and aesthetics of the Pond.
WE, the undersigned, demand that the City Council reject the Water Utility’s current proposal for repair of the Pond embankment and pursue lower cost and more natural alternatives.
