Call to the Fairfield Council to reject Assyrian memorial proposal

Published by Ayhan Sutcuoglu on Dec 06, 2009

We, the undersigned, declare that:

- by approving this proposal, the Fairfield Council will be an instrument to the efforts of those who try to make use of fabricated historical events for their political ambitions to the detriment of the multiethnic and multicultural harmony in our country, Australia and,

- supporting memorials on public land which are dedicated to one ethnic or cultural group for the sake of blackening members of another community is unacceptable.

Therefore, we the undersigned, request the Fairfield Council to reject this unjustified proposal at its meeting of 15 December 2009 in order to prevent erection of such a monument, supposedly honoring an immigrant group while alienating the other by relying on a fabricated and distorted version of history.
