Background (Preamble):
I am asking the Illinois States Attorney to require registered sex offenders who own rental property disclose their status to renters prior to accepting a security deposit and/or signing a lease agreement.
In addition it would require all rental property owners and their agents to disclose any registered sex offenders who are occupants living on the premises, managing the property or hired to work on the property.
The law would also require the property owner to notify the tenant should they be added to the registry anytime during the term of the lease.

Petition:
We, the undersigned, call on the Illinois States Attorney's office to require all property owners and their agents fully disclose their status on the Registered Sex Offenders list as well as occupants living on the premises, property managers or anyone hired to work on the property prior to lease signing and/or acceptance of a security deposit.
It would also be required to notify the tenant should they be added anytime during the term of the lease.
